Frito-Lay has decided to stop using biodegradable Sun Chips bags after public complaints about the noise. The bags, which went into use in January, are 100% compostable, but make a very loud noise when they are crinkled. As sales of Sun Chips have fallen since the bags were introduced, Frito-Lay has decided to revert back to the original bag. However, they will keep the biodegradable bag for the original flavor of Sun Chips, but look for a quieter material to make it out of. I don't really like Sun Chips, so I was unaware that the bag was loud in the first place. However, if you're trying to sell something, you have to please your customers. If they're complaining about the noise level of the bags, you really have no choice but to change them. Think about it: when we eat chips, the bag crinkles constantly. I can't imagine what it would be like if it was really loud.

Reflection: I think that it was a bad idea to stop selling bidegradable bags, because they were good for the environment. However, I do understand that it was necessary since people were complaining and the sales were going down. I hope that another biodegradable bag will come out that is less crinkly, and will be used for all snacks, not just Sun Chips.

I think that they definitely should have kept the biodegradable bags. They were healthier for the environment which is really important to the earth right now. Just because the bags make a lot of noise doesn't mean you have to start making wasteful ones. This shows that the company didn't really care about conserving the earth in the first place, and that Frito-Lay was just doing it for business. When did they decide this? How long had people been complaining before they made their final decision? Is the public generally happy with the decision? Is this just temporary until they find a better eco-friendly bag? I would like to find out a lot more on this topic because I feel strongly about how they are putting wealth before health.
ReplyDeleteI think that they should have kept selling the biodegrable bags. Using the biodegrable bags is healthier for the earth. I think, I hope this doesn't sound to mean, but that people should stop being so inconsiderate about the earth and start propecting and making a better earth for us and our future generations to live in. I personaly do not care at all about the noise because it's not the noise that you are eating but rather the food. And if you really like the food your eating I don't think people would mind the noise. Just think of your favorite food now lets just say it made a lot of noise would you deal with the noise or not? I hope they can do that so we wont have have to deal with this problem again. Do I actually think it is possible? I think that it might take some time.
